Ice and water

Wow it's been a very long time since I've blogged. I wanted to share some of the photos from around the area of the Black River and Lake Arbutus. In the last few weeks the water has been really high in the river. The kids loved watching all the ice chunks and whole trees come down the river. That's right I said whole trees. The dam in BRF is just down the road from our house so we've spent lots of time down there watching the water.

I just think this is a really cool shot of the dam.

The force of the water coming through the dam was just amazing.

One of the chunks of ice.

While we were watching the ice and other debris coming down the river the kids asked where it all comes from. So we decided to take a drive to Hatfield to show them. When we got there we found an awesome ice jam.

I love how excited the kids get about being outdoors and seeing all of this stuff. Teagan and Noah were just in awe of the river. I think they could have just sat and watched it for hours. The ice jam in Hatfield was just insane. When the ice in the river above Lake Arbutus thaws before Lake Arbutus does that's what happens. We haven't been in the area the last few years when it's happened, so I was happy to be able to see it again this year. And within a matter of a few days the river is open again and most of the ice is gone.

I've got more pictures and stories to share so I'm sure I'll be updating again very soon.
